This symposium presented preliminary results of a 30-month project funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation that was undertaken to evaluate current practices in fine art image reproduction, determine the image quality generally achievable today, and establish a suggested framework for art image interchange. Results from multiple experiments were among the inputs used to construct a conceptual framework of the various types of imaging taking place in cultural institutions at present. Results of the project to date were presented along with related presentations from other experts. The symposium was designed for people involved in all aspects of art image reproduction in museums, libraries and archives.
The symposium consisted of talks, panels, tours and an exhibit, as well as interactive sessions where the participants could partake in experiments, discussions, and surveys.
